December 9th, 2019, marked a significant milestone for Jumia Technologies in Rwanda as it announced the suspension of its food delivery business, Jumia Foods, in the country.

The decision comes after the company closed its Rwandan e-commerce business in 2017, leaving Jumia Foods as its remaining business in Rwanda.

According to a statement from Jumia, the company will no longer accept cash on delivery from December 9th, 2019, focusing on prepaid orders only.

"We have made the difficult decision to suspend our on-demand services effective on December 9th," Jumia stated.

However, the closure of the Rwandan business will take full effect on January 9th, 2020.

As part of its restructuring efforts, Jumia Technologies has also exited its travel operations in Nigeria, with Travelstart taking over the activities.

"We have decided to enter into a partnership with Travelstart. While we continue to promote the travel category, TravelStart will be responsible for the operational side of the business," a Jumia statement read.
