On Sunday, President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke at the St Francis of Assis Parish Church in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where he addressed the recent arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on corruption charges.
President Kenyatta emphasized that he will not be involved in the cases of leaders accused of economic crimes, stating that every suspect is innocent until proven guilty.
He noted that there are legal channels in place to handle such cases and urged Kenyans to join hands in fighting corruption and shunning corrupt leaders who are hindering the country's development agenda.
President Kenyatta also cautioned against politicizing the fight against corruption, saying, "We will not stop fighting corruption. This is not the responsibility of one or two individuals but the collective responsibility of each and everyone of us… all 47 million Kenyans."
He further warned graft suspects, saying, "Wakati ulikuwa unafanya mambo ya ufisadi, hukuwa na familia, hukuwa na jamii, uliiba peke yako, beba msalaba pekee yako." (Loosely translating to, "When you were engaging in graft, you were not with your family or community. You stole alone and therefore you should carry your own cross").
