On December 8, 2019, the Aga Khan delivered a speech in Kigali, emphasizing the continent's potential for growth and development.

With the fastest-growing economies in the world, Africa is poised to provide a new market for goods and services, as the population in the West diminishes.

The continent's strength has always been its people, with their resilience, sense of community, and resourcefulness driving progress and exciting prospects.

As the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, the Aga Khan has been committed to improving living conditions and opportunities in Africa since 1957.

He commended President Paul Kagame's leadership and the efforts of the African people in coming together to address the continent's challenges and improve their lives.

The Nation Media Group, founded by the Aga Khan in 1959, has played a significant role in promoting responsible journalism and thoughtful discussion of issues and opportunities on the African continent.

The Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network are committed to expanding their efforts to improve the quality of life for all Africans, in partnership with others.

The Aga Khan expressed confidence that Africa will continue to be a leader in building resilient, pluralistic, and economically strong communities, rooted in solid values and communal support structures.
