On December 10, 2019, Democrats in the US House of Representatives presented their case against President Trump, arguing that his conduct poses a 'clear and present danger' to fair elections.

At the heart of the Democrats' argument was the report by the Intelligence Committee, led by Representative Adam B. Schiff of California. Republicans, however, were quick to criticize the report and its authors, with some even going so far as to suggest that Representative Schiff was 'missing'.

Representative Jerrold Nadler, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, struggled to maintain order as Republicans repeatedly interrupted the hearing with parliamentary tactics. Representative Doug Collins of Georgia, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, accused Representative Nadler of 'bang[ing] the gavel harder — still doesn't make it right.'

Representative Nadler shot back, saying that Republicans had 'talked about everything else, but they have offered not one substantive word in the president's defense.'

Republicans also took issue with the Democrats' decision to call House lawyers to testify, with some accusing them of 'badgering the witness.'
