Yesterday, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko made a dramatic appearance at the Milimani law courts, surrounded by a battery of lawyers and a heavy police presence.

According to the charge sheet, Sonko may be known by multiple names, including Kioko Mike Sonko Mbuvi Gidion, Kioko Mike Sonko, Mbuvi Gidion Kioko, Mike Sonko Mbuvi Gidion, and Mbuvi Gidion Kioko Sonko.

Despite his call for calm on Sunday, urging his supporters to stay away from the courts, the police took no chances, turning back persons who could not identify their interest in the case.

Sonko pleaded not guilty to the graft charges, and he, along with his co-accused, was remanded until Wednesday, when the court will determine whether they will be released on bail.

Leading the team of lawyers defending Sonko were Kipchumba Murkomen, Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, and Dan Maanzo, among others.
