On December 7, 2019, Chelsea's Mason Mount was in action against Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson at Goodison Park, where a disturbing incident occurred.

Everton is working with anti-discrimination group Kick It Out to investigate reports of homophobic chanting by fans during their 3-1 win over Chelsea at Goodison Park.

The Premier League club condemned the behavior and is carrying out a thorough investigation, which will include liaison with Merseyside Police.

Everton's caretaker manager, Duncan Ferguson, led the team to a 3-1 victory, moving them up to 14th place with 17 points.
