December 9, 2019, marked the end of a remarkable year for Kenyan sports, with numerous events that left a lasting impression on the nation.

One of the most notable moments was when Kipchoge Keino, the world's greatest marathoner, made history in Vienna, Austria, by becoming the first human being to run a marathon in under two hours.

Keino's incredible feat, clocking 1:59:40, was a testament to his dedication and perseverance. The 35-year-old's achievement was a proud moment for Kenya, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the world of athletics.

Another significant event was the Harambee Starlets' win in the CECAFA Women's championship. Despite failing to secure a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the team bounced back to claim the regional title, defeating Tanzania in the process.

The Harambee Stars also made headlines, holding Egypt to a thrilling 1-1 draw in an Afcon 2021 Qualifier match played in Cairo. Michael Olunga's equalizing goal in the 67th minute was a turning point in the match, as Kenya fought hard to secure a draw against a strong Egyptian team.

Additionally, Michael Olunga's record-breaking eight goals for Kashiwa Reysol in Japan were a highlight of the year. His impressive performance, including a 13-1 demolition of Kyoto Sanga, showcased his skills and cemented his position as a top player in the Japanese league.

Lastly, the government's crackdown on betting firms and the introduction of stringent tax measures led to the exit of several companies, including Betin, SportPesa, and 1Xbet, from the Kenyan market. The withdrawal of SportPesa, in particular, dealt a significant blow to the country's sporting activities, as the firm was a major sponsor of various projects, including the Kenya Premier League.
