On December 4, 2019, Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui was summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters as detectives gathered evidence over the stalled Itare dam.
Chelugui downplayed the summons two days later, stating he was only providing useful information to authorities.
However, a section of leaders from Baringo County, led by Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren and Baringo North MP William Cheptumo, read malice in the summons.
The leaders questioned the motives behind the ongoing investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, challenging the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to do due diligence.
The Itare dam project was projected to serve around 800,000 people in Nakuru, Kuresoi, Molo, and Rongai.
