On Sunday, a Toyota Probox veered off the road while traveling from Kirinyaga to Embu town, ramming into guardrails and plunging into River Rupingazi.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was speeding at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, the three occupants - two men and a woman - escaped with minor injuries, although they were badly shaken.
They were rescued by bystanders, including David Kimotho, and rushed to the Embu Level Five Hospital for treatment.
The car was later lifted out of the river using a crane and taken to the Embu Police Station for further investigation.
It's worth noting that the guardrails at the scene had been reinstalled just a month prior, after being ripped off by another car.
Recently, two 14-seater matatus collided head-on in the same spot, resulting in the deaths of two people and serious injuries to 28 others.
The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has since installed rumble strips to prompt drivers to slow down as they approach the bridge.
However, despite these measures, drivers continue to ignore speed limits, leading to multiple accidents.
Residents are now calling for the section of the road to be expanded and made a dual lane with permanent barriers instead of guardrails.
