Head coach Paul Bitok has given three players from the national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, an ultimatum to report to training by Tuesday or risk being dropped from the squad.
The players in question are setters Janet Wanja and Jane Wacu, who have yet to report to camp since training began last Tuesday, and Esther Mutinda, who has trained with the team but left citing personal reasons.
Bitok, who returned to the country last week after conducting a coaching course in Nigeria, said he will have no choice but to drop the three players if they fail to show up for training on Tuesday.
"I have contacted the three players and I have given them until tomorrow to be in the training. If they fail to show up then I will have no choice but to replace them with one setter and one left attacker," Bitok noted.
He added that the team only has one setter, Joy Lusenaka, and that they cannot do much without proper training. However, they have two weeks to cover as much ground as they can before the Africa Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifiers.
The qualifiers are set for January 2 to 10 in Cameroon, where Malkia Strikers will face off against hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Botswana, Rwanda, and Mauritius for the one slot reserved for Africa.
