On Saturday morning, a devastating incident occurred at the Likoni Channel, where a motorist drove his car into the Indian Ocean, resulting in his tragic death.

The incident, which has been captured on CCTV footage, shows the vehicle speeding and plunging into the ocean from the ramp used by motorists to board ferries at the crossing point.

The deceased, identified as John Mutinda, was driving a saloon car with registration number KAX 475B when the incident occurred.

According to the Kenya Ferry Services, Mutinda defied orders from ramp controllers to slow down and stop, leading to the tragic outcome.

The body of the deceased was recovered at 9:30 am on Saturday, while his vehicle was recovered around noon.

A combined team of Kenya Ferry Services, Kenya Coast Guard Service, and Kenya Navy personnel carried out the recovery exercise.

The incident is a grim reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of following safety guidelines.

It comes just three months after a similar incident occurred at the Likoni Channel, where Mariam Kighenda and her four-year-old daughter, Amanda Mutheu, died after their car slid from the rear of MV Harambee.
