On December 9, 2019, a police officer in Chepalungu, Bomet County was shot with an arrow by an illicit liquor brewer, leaving him with injuries on his left leg.

The officer, who was part of a team from Lukumek Police Station, had left their workplace to look for witnesses who were set to testify in a case before court.

However, their vehicle got stuck in the mud, and they decided to take a detour through a nearby homestead where local residents were drinking illicit liquor.

According to Chepalungu sub-county police boss Nelson Masai, the residents started screaming upon seeing the officers, and one of the men took out a bow and arrow and shot at them.

The injured officer was treated at the Sigor Sub-county Hospital before being discharged.

A search has since been launched for the suspects.
