At the Kusi Ideas Festival in Kigali, Rwanda, panellists discussed the future of Africa, with a focus on a borderless continent.
According to Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Africa's millennials are the most hopeful generation globally, prioritizing collaborations over competition.
Kituyi emphasized the need for governments to create policies that ease travel, access, and movement across the continent, allowing young people to freely interact, invest, and migrate.
He also highlighted the importance of migrants, stating that almost 53% of migrant movements are intra-African, and that migrants bring new human resources and remittances to both their host and home countries.
Clare Akamanzi, CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB), cited Rwanda as a prime example of a borderless vision spurring growth, with the country opening its borders to attract visitors, investments, and businesses.
Linus Gitahi, a board member of Msingi East Africa, urged governments to focus on a new educational curriculum that prioritizes digi-tech, entrepreneurship, and creative arts, while also protecting young people's assets through patents and copyright registration.
