On Saturday, December 7, 2019, Chris Martin's 'Big Deal Concert' was held at Impala grounds in Nairobi, but the event was marred by a security mishap that left several revelers robbed of their valuables.
The concert, which was Chris Martin's third time in Kenya, was initially scheduled to take place at the KICC grounds in the city's CBD, but the organizers, Umoja Splash Festivals, were forced to move it to Impala grounds due to the 9th Head of States African, Pacific & Caribbean Summit being held at the KICC.
At Impala grounds, the security organization proved to be a major challenge for the event organizers, allowing muggers to roam freely and rob the revellers of their valuables.
Many of the revellers were too afraid to take videos of the performances due to the presence of muggers.
Umoja Splash Festivals has since apologized for the security lapses, stating, 'We have great respect for the fans who have supported our shows and we apologize for the lapses in controls and security.'
Despite the security mishap, the concert still managed to feature great performances from Chris Martin, Future Fambo, and D-Major, as well as several local acts, including Elani, Masauti, and Bensoul.
It was reported that Chris Martin pocketed Sh2.5 million, while Future Fambo and D-Major split the remaining Sh2 million of the total purse money.
