Published on December 9, 2019, Kenya has made a significant leap in the global clean energy landscape, ranking fifth in the annual Bloomberg index.

The country's rise to the top five is attributed to the growing contribution of solar, wind, and geothermal capacity to its energy mix, which now accounts for up to 65 percent of its energy sources.

Kenya's clean energy investments have seen a significant boost, with Ksh140 billion ($1.4 billion) invested in 2018, making it the best in Africa and one of the top 10 globally.

According to the Bloomberg report, Kenya's ranking is a testament to its growing renewable energy value chain, which is also cheaper to produce compared to thermal energy.

Kenya scored 2.52 on the Climatescope 2019 index, behind India, Chile, Brazil, and China, but ahead of many developed countries, including those in Europe.
