On December 9, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko arrived at the Milimani Law Court under tight police security, marking the beginning of his court appearance.
As he faced multiple charges, Sonko's defense team, comprising 12 prominent city lawyers, was present to provide legal counsel.
Among the lawyers were Senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior and Kipchumba Murkomen, who were part of Sonko's defense team.
Earlier, Sonko had asked his supporters to remain calm, stating that his arrest was politically motivated and urging them to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work.
"I urge all my supporters to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work and let the law take its course. The peace and stability of Nairobi is more important than anything else," Sonko said in a press statement issued on Sunday.
Also spotted in court was Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
