Published on December 9, 2019, a warning was issued by the weatherman regarding flying along the Kenyan coastline due to heavy rains and cyclonic activities.
For the next three days, Mombasa and other coastal counties will experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
According to Mr Edward Ngure, Mombasa's Director of Meteorology, the cyclonic activities are reducing pressure in the Indian Ocean, causing most clouds to move towards the cyclone.
"Heavy rains will be accompanied by strong winds offshore, which may result in a storm surge in the ocean," said Mr Ngure.
Residents in Mombasa, particularly in areas such as Nyali, Kisauni, Shanzu, Likoni, Mvita, Changamwe, and Jomvu, are advised to be cautious due to the expected heavy rainfall.
Additionally, fishermen and beachgoers are warned about strong winds, while residents in low-lying areas and those with poor drainage systems are at risk of flash floods.
Meanwhile, in Taita Taveta, the county government has announced plans to support victims of rain-related calamities by relocating them to safer ground and reconstructing their houses.
More than 200 families have been left homeless by heavy rains that destroyed their houses, with some families camping at Voi Primary School.
County Governor Granton Samboja has pledged to support affected families by relocating and reconstructing their homes, but has asked for help from the national government.
