December 9, 2019, marked a significant day for Governor Mike Sonko as he faced corruption charges at the Milimani Law Courts. The heavy security deployment around the courts was a clear indication of the potential for chaos.
According to reports, Governor Sonko was arrested on Friday over irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh.357 million. He spent the weekend at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) police cells.
Anti-riot police remained on standby at various locations in the City centre, and traffic flow near the Milimani Law Courts was diverted. The Governor was presented in court before Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.
As reported by Citizen TV Kenya on Twitter, the situation was closely monitored by the public and the media.
