On December 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested on the orders of Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

He was taken to court on the same day, where a team of 12 lawyers led by Senator Kipchumba Murkomen represented him.

According to the charges against him, Sonko is accused of multiple economic crimes, including embezzlement and abuse of office.

On December 9, 2019, Sonko appeared in court to answer to the charges, surrounded by a team of lawyers and supporters, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
