Published on December 9, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has denied claims of escaping arrest, stating he was on his way to Shimo La Tewa to complete his jail term.

According to Sonko, government officers who had been secretly following him from the capital were idle and lacked a purpose, adding that he had already decided to face his fate head-on.

He clarified that he was fully aware of the government's decision on accused persons and would have ultimately surrendered himself to the police.

Sonko also slammed the government officers for stalking him, saying they were as guilty as anyone else and that the truth would soon come out.

He added that he had arrived at this decision a long time ago, after noting that it was within the public domain that he had escaped from prison.

However, Sonko's dramatic arrest has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some describing the police officers involved as 'primitive and unknowledgeable.'
