December 9, 2019, Nairobi - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched a crackdown on cartels operating in Nairobi City Hall, which have been linked to Governor Mike Sonko.

According to EACC investigations, Sonko's associates have been depositing millions of shillings into his accounts, believed to be kickbacks from corrupt dealings.

Among those on the list of cartels being targeted by EACC is Anthony Otieno Ombok, the director of ROG Security Limited, Arab Auto Limited, High Energy Limited, and High Energy Petroleum Limited.

Ombok has close links with the governor, having been temporarily appointed as his communications adviser in 2017. He is also the chairman of Eastlands-based ROG SACCO.

Other individuals listed as cartels include Anthony Mwaura Ng'ang'a, the director of Hardi Enterprises Limited and Toddy Civil Engineering Limited, who wired cash to Sonko's personal accounts after winning tenders in Nairobi County.

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua and controversial businessman Paul Kobia are also listed as cartels running under Sonko.

Mike Sonko and his six co-accused are expected to appear in court today, Monday, December 9, to face charges related to the Sh537 million corruption scandal.
