Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested on graft charges and is currently at the Millimani Law Court.

According to a statement issued by Sonko on Sunday, his arrest was politically instigated, and he has asked his supporters to remain calm.

‘I urge all my supporters to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work and let the law take its course. The peace and stability of Nairobi is more important than anything else,’ Sonko said.

On the day of his arrest, Sonko was heading to Mombasa to attend an official function, according to his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui.

However, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had claimed that Sonko was on the run.
