On Sunday, President Uhuru Kenyatta attended a church fundraiser at St. Francis of Assis Parish in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where he made a personal contribution of Sh3 million and pledged Sh4 million for the construction of the church.

During the event, the President cautioned leaders against politicizing the fight against corruption, emphasizing that no leader would be allowed to use their position to avoid prosecution. He added that it was the responsibility of every Kenyan to fight corruption.

Uhuru's message comes against the backdrop of the dramatic arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko last Friday in Voi over graft allegations. The Governor was arrested over irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh.357 million.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji said investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had collected sufficient evidence to sustain the charges. Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal (Samburu) are also facing graft charges.

Speaking at the church, the President said, “When an individual is stealing public resources he doesn’t do so on behalf of his family or community. Therefore, anyone who is implicated should carry their own cross.”

Uhuru assured that all institutions mandated to lead the war on graft will not be interfered with, and everyone will be presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
