On November 11, 2019, a horrific crime shook the quiet town of Mwingi, Kenya. Eunice Kiema, a devoted mother of two and lecturer at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Mwingi campus, was found brutally murdered inside her vehicle.
According to Mwingi Central sub-county commander Peter Mutuma, the body was discovered at Mwingi market, with several stab wounds and some body parts set on fire. The gruesome scene was a stark reminder of the senseless violence that had taken Kiema's life.
As the investigation began, Mutuma revealed that the suspect had attempted to torch the car, a Toyota Raum with registration KCJ 451B, which was found at the scene with a matchbox nearby.
Days later, an autopsy at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital revealed the extent of Kiema's injuries, including strangle marks on her neck, wounds on her head, brain bleeding, burns over her right hip, legs, and foot, and injuries on her forearm.
Kiema's brother, Joseph Kiema, had previously expressed the family's frustration with the slow pace of the investigation, stating, 'My sister, Eunice Nuna Kiema was brutally murdered in a way too horrible to describe on the night of 10th/11th November 2019 at Mwingi. She was a lecturer at KMTC Mwingi campus. The gruesome murder was reported at Mwingi Police Station and booked under OB NUMBER. 25/11/11 at 0915hrs.'
Following the arrest of a suspect, Jackson Nzaghi, Kiema's family expressed their gratitude and urged the investigative officers to bring all culprits to book.
The lecturer was laid to rest in an emotional send-off at her Kyanika village in Kyuso sub-county, with mourners calling for fast investigations.
