December 9, 2019, marked a significant milestone for Kenya's tourism industry as Google launched its street view feature on maps for 21 national parks and one conservancy.
The collaboration between Google, the Ministry of Tourism, Kenya Wildlife Services, the County Governments of Narok and Samburu, and the management of Ol Pejeta Conservancy made it possible to capture 360-degree ground-level imagery of these national parks and one conservancy.
Street View is a feature found on Google Maps that allows users to remotely explore landmarks, navigate trips, and visit places of interest from around the world.
Kenya's national parks, including Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Nairobi National Park, Mount Kenya, Hell's Gate, Samburu National Reserve, and Ol Pejeta Conservancy, are now accessible through this feature.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala emphasized the potential of virtual maps in marketing Kenya as a viable tourist destination and boosting visitor numbers.
“The virtual maps will play a great role in marketing the country as a viable tourist destination around the world, and boost visitor numbers to the country,” Balala said.
