Comparison of Infinix Hot 8 and Tecno Spark 4

Published on December 9, 2019

The Infinix Hot 8 and Tecno Spark 4 are two budget-friendly smartphones that offer impressive features at affordable prices. In this article, we compare the two devices and highlight their similarities and differences.

Both devices have a similar design, with a big and plastic-y build. They have similar button and feature placement, with clean tops and a microUSB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker at the bottom. However, the Tecno Spark 4 has separate volume up and down buttons, while the Infinix Hot 8 has a volume rocker.

The cameras on both devices are similar, with three cameras on the back. However, they do not offer anything spectacular, and are best suited for basic needs. The Infinix Hot 8 has a slightly better camera performance, but it is not a significant difference.

Both devices are powered by MediaTek's Helio A22 chipset and have similar amounts of memory. As a result, their performance is almost identical. However, the Tecno Spark 4 has a slightly slower fingerprint sensor, while the Infinix Hot 8 has a more momentary stutter with its face unlock feature.

The software on both devices is also similar, with both brands offering their own custom software overlays. However, the Infinix XOS and Tecno HiOS have different approaches to the user experience, with some convergence points. Both devices have battery optimizations and bundle unnecessary apps, but they also have annoying ads in the notification dropdown.

The Infinix Hot 8 has a mammoth 5,000mAh battery unit, which shows in its extended screen-on-time. However, the Tecno Spark 4 still manages to get a respectable 2 hours less screen time.

The Infinix Hot 8 is priced at Kshs 11,000, while the Tecno Spark 4 goes for Kshs 12,000. The latter adds a little bit of oomph and flair to its rather ordinary profile with the choice of design and tries too hard when it comes to the cameras. The former doesn't need to do much to stand out in the battery department, its stronghold.
