Meet Internationally Certified Reflexologist, Esther Mukami ¶
Esther Mukami is an internationally certified reflexologist with 12 years of experience working in Kenya, Dubai, South Sudan, Taiwan, and Thailand. She has a passion for beauty and wellness, which led her to study reflexology.
Mukami's journey began in 2001 when she became aware of how the body responds to different types of therapy. She studied beauty therapy at Aphrodite Beauty Institute and Timeless Beauty College, and then went to the Watpo Traditional Medical School in Thailand to study human anatomy and physiology.
After completing her studies, Mukami attended the Rwo-Shr International Institute in Taiwan, where she specialized in nerves and muscles therapy. She has since worked in various countries, including Kenya, Dubai, South Sudan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Mukami runs a wellness clinic in Kenya, which she started three years ago. Despite facing some challenges, she has managed to build a loyal client base and plans to expand her business to all counties in Kenya.
According to Mukami, wellness is not a luxury, but a necessity for everyone. She believes that reflexology can improve blood circulation, which is essential for people of all ages, from newborn babies to the elderly.
When asked about the lessons she has learned about entrepreneurship over the last 12 years, Mukami emphasized the importance of patience, passion, and integrity. She also stressed the need for professionalism in the reflexology industry, as therapists deal directly with clients and build close relationships with them.
Mukami's advice to young people who aspire to become reflexologists is to gain a solid background knowledge of beauty therapy and human anatomy. She also recommends polishing their soft skills, as reflexology involves a lot of interpersonal communication.
One of the common misconceptions about reflexology is that it is no different from a foot massage. Mukami clarified that reflexology is a distinct healing art that requires specialized training and approval from the Ministry of Health in Kenya.
Reflexology differs from other healing arts such as acupuncture and acupressure in that it focuses on applying pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, hands, and outer ears. Mukami highlighted the importance of creating awareness about reflexology and the need to distinguish it from ordinary foot massage.
Despite the challenges associated with the field, Mukami remains committed to promoting reflexology and its benefits. She believes that with patience, passion, and integrity, reflexologists can build a successful business and make a positive impact on people's lives.
