Published on December 8, 2019, a thought-provoking article highlighted the untapped potential of real estate in Kenya's growth.

With land scarcity in Nairobi, developers are turning to the outskirts, but this is not the only solution. By thinking outside the box and investing in rural areas, Kenya can achieve affordable housing and boost agriculture.

As per the devolution agenda, development should be countrywide, not limited to urban areas. This approach can erase Kenya from the list of third-world countries and propel it to the first world.

Real estate development in rural areas can create jobs, enhance national unity, and cohesion. It can also provide a ready market for farmers' produce, benefiting the economy.

Investing in rural real estate can also address the issue of poor roads, making it easier for people to access farm produce. This, in turn, can boost small-scale farming and reduce poverty.

Imagine a city within an upcountry county, where every county has a city. This vision can become a reality with real estate development in rural areas.

Real estate development can also address environmental concerns, such as pollution through sewers. Adequate land in rural areas makes it easy to build garbage processing plants that recycle waste into biogas, friendly to the environment.

It is time for Kenya to become a metropolitan and agricultural country, where we support each other like the poles and chains in a fence. Supporting farmers will give them the morale to practice advanced agriculture, and real estate will enhance cultural interactions, eliminating regional tribal blocks.
