Kenya is gearing up to host the 6th East Africa Oil and Gas Summit and Exhibition in March, a move that is expected to attract over 500 oil and gas executives from across the region.

According to Charles Kahuthu, the regional coordinator and CEO of the East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the event will bring together participants from Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar to showcase the commercial opportunities in the region.

Kenya is currently undertaking an early oil export pilot scheme, sounding out the market ahead of full commercial production in the next decade. The country is also planning to build a crude pipeline to Lamu from the Turkana oil fields.

Uganda is also on the oil export path with a planned pipeline through Tanzania, further positioning East Africa as a hotbed of oil and gas exploration, investment, and development.

However, the regional economies have been grappling with the financing of the capital-intensive oil production process.
