Published on December 8, 2019, a devastating building collapse in Tassia Estate, Embakasi Constituency, has claimed 10 lives after three more bodies were recovered on Sunday evening.

Among the latest victims are two children and a male adult, according to Embakasi OCPD David Apima.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with a multi-agency team comprised of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Disaster Management Unit, and the Kenya Red Cross working tirelessly to reach those trapped in the rubble.

As of Sunday morning, the death toll stood at seven, with the bodies of a man and a woman retrieved from the rubble on Saturday night.

Despite the progress made, the rescue operation remains complex and challenging, with seven people still unaccounted for and feared to be trapped in the rubble of the six-storey building that collapsed on Friday.

“We still don’t know how long this operation will take… We cannot say for sure,” said Embakasi Assistant County Commissioner James Wanyoike on Saturday.
