Chaos in Nyeri: Tanga Tanga, Kieleweke Factions Clash, 10 Arrested ¶
December 8, 2019
Chaos erupted in Nyeri after Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke locals clashed during Deputy President William Ruto's visit to the region.
According to reports, the two factions engaged in physical confrontations, resulting in at least 10 arrests by police officers who stormed the area.
Area MP Ngunjiri Wambugu claimed the police conspired with the area MCA Samuel Gichuki to arrest his supporters, alleging that they were beaten up and pelted with stones.
"Gichuki's work today was to beat up anyone associated with me, then hand them over to the police. He had sworn that I would not attend the event in Giakanja. At some point, he even tried to throw a stone at my car as I was getting in," Wambugu said in a Facebook post.
A section of Tanga Tanga members was seen razing down t-shirts branded 'Uhuru's bedroom' while chanting Ruto's name.
Earlier, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria had accused his Nyeri counterpart of hiring goons to disrupt DP William Ruto's event.
MP Kuria had alleged Wambugu was planning to disrupt Ruto's event, warning that the hired goons would be hurt since the congregants of the church the DP was visiting were freedom fighters.
"I really fear for the lives of those goons given that the AIPCA faithful are the real freedom fighters who liberated this country," said Kuria.
