On December 8, 2019, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta attended the closing ceremony of the Magical Kenya Ladies Open golf tournament at the Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort in Kilifi County.

The Ladies European Tour, a professional golf tour for women founded in 1978, had chosen Kenya to host its final tournament of the 2019 season.

First Lady Kenyatta commended the organizers for selecting Kenya, noting that the event had attracted over 100 professional golfers from 28 countries and was the first time a ladies professional golf championship of this magnitude had come to the East African region.

She expressed optimism that the tournament would trigger interest in golf among women across the country and encouraged more women to break gender barriers in sports and other spheres of influence.

Esther Henseleit from Germany emerged the winner, taking home 45,000 Euros (approximately Ksh 5 million) of the total prize money of 300,000 Euros.

Kenya's Sports CS Amina Mohamed welcomed the participants to return next year, with plans to make the Magical Kenya Ladies Open an annual event.
