Published on December 8, 2019, a video clip emerged on social media showing a police officer allegedly pickpocketing his boss at Ikanga airstrip in Voi during the dramatic arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The officer, dressed in a jungle green uniform, appears to take something from the senior officer, who seems startled but continues to monitor the situation.
However, the National Police Service Commission has come out to defend the officer, stating that the video clip is a 'misrepresentation of facts and untrue.'
In a statement, the police service said, 'The video clip doing rounds on social media highlighting what appears to be an act of pickpocketing by a police officer is a misrepresentation of facts and untrue.'
They also added that the Officer in Charge of Traffic Voi has confirmed that he was not pickpocketed, and that the police command in Voi has confirmed that the officer in question is disciplined and of high integrity.
