Published on December 8, 2019, Arsenal's search for a new manager has reached a crucial stage, with Mikel Arteta emerging as the top choice candidate to replace Unai Emery.
Arteta, who is Pep Guardiola's no.2 at Manchester City, has joined a host of other candidates the club is eyeing to take over on a permanent basis.
Emery's departure from the Emirates Stadium at the end of November has left a void that needs to be filled, and Freddie Ljungberg has taken over on an interim basis. However, Ljungberg's struggles to turn around the Gunners' fortunes have raised concerns that the club may need to speed up their search for a permanent successor.
According to a Metro UK report citing The Telegraph, the Gunners hierarchy now favour Arteta to take over should they be rushed into making an appointment before the end of the season.
Arteta will be subjected to an 'Apprentice-style' interview grilling before landing the Emirates hot-seat, a move reportedly aimed at ensuring that the club is getting the right man for the lucrative job.
Meanwhile, ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, Max Allegri, and Niko Kovac are also in the frame to succeed Emery.
