On December 8, 2019, a devastating flood and landslide disaster struck western Uganda, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life.
According to reports, 22 people have been killed and hundreds are still missing after the disaster, which was triggered by heavy rainfall in the region.
River Tokwe burst its banks, further displacing people in the area and causing widespread destruction of property, including crops and houses.
Bundibugyo District chairperson Ronald Mutegeki described the situation as 'very terrible and unfortunate', with bridges washed away and roads submerged, paralysing the transport network.
Many displaced residents have been forced to seek refuge in schools and churches, with Mr Mutegeki urging people living in areas prone to floods and landslides to relocate to safer areas.
Bwamba County MP Richard Gafabusa has called for urgent relief support to be distributed to the affected communities.
