Manchester City's title defence took a hit after a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Etihad Stadium on December 7, 2019.

The defeat left City 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have been impressive this season.

City boss Pep Guardiola admitted that United's attackline gave his side problems, citing the pace of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Daniel James as a major challenge.

"We conceded a little bit more space - not more than usual, but more than last year against United," Guardiola said in a post-match interview.

"We knew about the pace they have, with James, Martial and Rashford, but sometimes it is not possible to control it," he added.

United's win marked a significant turning point in the title race, with City now sitting third on the standings and United under minimal pressure.
