Mike Sonko Arrested Over Graft Allegations ¶
On December 6, 2019, Governor Mike Sonko was arrested over graft allegations, sparking a scuffle with police officers.
According to reports, the county boss protested the arrest, leading to a confrontation with the police officers.
Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has now called for the police officer who attempted to hit Sonko during the arrest to be charged.
Murkomen, who is a vocal Rift Valley politician, made the appeal to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hillary Mutyambai.
He shared a video on his Twitter page showing a police officer in blue uniform charging at Sonko after he told him to keep off.

Murkomen condemned the police officer's actions, saying that the uniform had changed but the mindset remained the same.
He quoted a statement by Police Spokesperson Charles Owino, who said that Sonko would face assault charges among others.
According to Owino, Sonko assaulted and injured a senior police officer during the arrest, leading to the charges being preferred against him.
