Engstrom on Brink of Kenya Ladies Open Glory ¶

Published on December 7, 2019, Swedish teenager Julia Engström maintained her dogged campaign in search of a maiden tour victory at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Engström, the 2018 Rookie of the Year, carded a two under par 70 in day three of the Ladies European Tour’s magical Kenya open at the Vipingo Ridge PGA accredited course.

Despite illness and a few bad shots, Engström built a seven stroke lead heading into the final round, despite two bogeys in the 17th and 18th and a double bogey on the par three 8th.

Engström attributed her good run to striking the ball very well and keeping it in the fairways, saying, “Striking the ball very well and keeping it in the fairways.”

She added, “Today was that good as I was unwell and made some mistakes on my ball striking. I managed to make some birdies which is good. I hit the waters in the eighth which wasn’t that good, but all in all I have been hitting the ball well and really relied on my ball striking this week.”

Engström is now seven clear of Christine Wolf, Aditi Ashok, Astrid Vayson de Pradenne, and Esther Henseleit, who sit at six under.

Other notable players in the event include Sanna Nuutinen in sixth place, while Kylie Henry, Cheyenne Woods, Ursula Wikstrom, and Kelsey MacDonald are tied for seventh on two under.
