Everton's fortunes changed dramatically on December 7, 2019, as caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson inspired a thrilling 3-1 win over Chelsea at Goodison Park.

Ferguson, a former Everton striker, replaced the sacked Marco Silva in the dugout and made an immediate impact with his aggressive 4-4-2 formation.

The visitors, Chelsea, began explosively with a goal in the fifth minute, but Everton responded with a Richarlison header, followed by two goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which justified Ferguson's decision to shake up the side.

Despite Mateo Kovacic's snatch shot narrowing the difference to 2-1, Everton's revived side was never going to be denied in front of a raucous crowd.

The win provisionally moved Everton up to 14th place with 17 points, two points above the drop zone, while Chelsea remained fourth on 29 points from 16 games.
