On Saturday, December 7, 2019, South Africa's Blitzbokke team made history by clinching the Dubai Sevens title with a resounding 15-0 victory over New Zealand.
The team, led by Rosko Specman, had earlier defeated Argentina 12-5 in the quarter-finals and Samoa 38-7 in the semi-finals.
Despite New Zealand's strong performance, having overcome the United States (26-5) and England (19-12) to reach the final, the Boks proved too strong, securing a seventh title in the United Arab Emirates.
"I'm so proud of the boys. We call ourselves a defence team and we are proud of that. That's what the boys showed tonight," said Siviwe Soyizwapi, the Blitzbokke's player.
Meanwhile, New Zealand's women's team, led by Stacey Waaka, secured a 17-14 victory over Canada to retain their Dubai title.
The next tournament for both men and women's teams is scheduled to take place in Cape Town between December 13-15, 2019.
