On Saturday, Kwale Queens made history by storming the finals of this year's Chapa Dimba na Safaricom football tournament at Bomu stadium, after defeating Kaloleni Starlets 6-5 in post-match penalties.
It was a thrilling match that saw both teams give their all, with Kaloleni striking first in the 13th minute after Kadzo Jumaanne made good use of a Vivian Shionzo well-weighted cross.
However, Kwale Queens refused to give up and stepped up the pace, with assistant coach Charles Omolo urging them on from the touchline.
As the match entered the second half, both teams continued to create chances, but failing to translate them into goals, prompting penalties to decide the outcome.
In the end, Kwale Queens converted four of their spot kicks via Amondi, Aringo, Zainab Mganda, Mwanaisha Windzala, and Bokokelu Sidhani, while Salama Mariga shot wide.
"I am very happy that we made it to the finals for the second straight year, but this is not enough because our target is to win the trophy and the Sh200,000 prize money," said George Ojwaya, the coach of Kwale Queens, after the match.
His Kaloleni counterpart, Joseph Oyoo, blamed poor finishing for the loss, saying, "We were in control for the better part of the game, but could not take advantage of the chances we created."
