On December 7, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto opened the 110th ACP Council of Ministers meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
During his address, Ruto emphasized the need for a global approach to combat terrorism, which he described as a threat to peace, stability, and development worldwide.
He noted that terrorism manifests differently in various social-economic and political contexts, and therefore, requires a tailored approach to address its root causes.
Ruto also highlighted the need to address the disruption caused by climate change, which he said affects health, livelihoods, food productivity, and water availability globally.
On the economy, Ruto urged African countries to leverage their numbers and skills to trade more with other regions, emphasizing the importance of integration into the global system, elimination of market constraints, and cementing investment ties.
He also implored governments to institute policy reforms that would see the expansion of economic resources controlled by women and youth, leading to more robust economic growth in ACP member states.
