On Saturday, John Mutinda, the driver of the ill-fated Toyota Allion, left his home at 4am claiming to have an urgent appointment, but his wife, Ruth Mueni, suspected something was amiss.

She tried to get more information about the meeting, but Mutinda was evasive. In a desperate bid to stop him, she even hid the car keys, but he managed to retrieve them and left the house while still in his pajamas.

Despite her efforts, Mutinda drove to the Likoni channel, bought a ticket, and sped off the ramp at high speed, plunging into the ocean. Divers from the Kenya Navy were called to the scene and retrieved the car 8 hours later.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the mortuary at the Coast General Hospital.
