On 6th December, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway following a directive from the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji.

According to the National Police Service, Sonko became abusive, unruly, and violent during his arrest, obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties.

The Governor allegedly assaulted and injured a senior police officer leading the team and damaged media equipment.

The National Police Service has stated that they will press charges against Sonko, citing his violent behavior during the arrest.

Additionally, the institution warned that any individuals planning to cause civil unrest must adhere to the law and face consequences for breaking it.

Sonko has been accused of involvement in a multi-million-dollar corruption scandal, including irregularly awarding tenders to his close aides, forging documents, and misappropriating county funds.
