On December 6, 2019, a bus traveling from Nairobi to Mandera was ambushed by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Wargadud village in Wajir County, resulting in the deaths of eight people and several injuries.

According to unconfirmed reports, the militants separated the passengers into two groups before shooting non-locals.

The bus driver and the passengers who survived the attack opted to turn back and went to Kutulo Police Station, where the bus remains.

The victims included six police officers, a medic, and a civilian.

Authorities have identified four survivors: three police officers and a civilian, and are still searching for two police officers who were believed to have been in the bus.

President Uhuru Kenyatta sent his condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that security agencies are pursuing the attackers and will not relent until they are captured.

"The President would like to inform the country that security forces are pursuing the killers and assures that the Government will not relent in its ruthless crackdown on criminal elements including suspected terrorists in its solemn duty to safeguard the lives and property of Kenyans," read the statement.
