On December 7, 2019, Meru County Assembly announced plans to spend Sh300 million on a 10-storey office building for ward representatives, sparking widespread criticism.

The project, which also includes the purchase of four acres of land for the construction of houses for the County Speaker, Governor Kiraitu Murungi, and Deputy Governor, has raised eyebrows among locals and experts alike.

According to Meru County Assembly Speaker Joseph Kaberia, the building will alleviate congestion and provide a conducive working environment for Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

However, the project has been shrouded in mystery, with many questioning the need for such an expensive project.

Weekly Citizen reported that the design of the building was done by Meru County Government's architectural experts at no cost, fueling further speculation.

The project is expected to be completed within two to three years, depending on the allocation and availability of funds from the government.
