On December 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested in Voi while en route to Mombasa, hours after the Director of Public Prosecution ordered his immediate arrest and prosecution.
According to the National Police Service, Governor Sonko became abusive, unruly, and violent during the arrest, attempting to resist.
He allegedly assaulted and injured a senior police officer leading the team and damaged media equipment, as stated in a press release.
A senior police officer is set to press charges against the governor.
