Ulinzi Warriors Secure Semifinal Win Over Kenya Ports Authority ¶
Ulinzi Warriors took a significant step towards the Kenya Basketball Federation men's Premier League final with an 85-74 win over Kenya Ports Authority in Game Three of the semifinals at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi on December 7, 2019.
Despite KPA's strong start, winning the first quarter 25-11, Ulinzi Warriors dominated the remaining three quarters, claiming 20-15, 28-10, and 26-24 victories respectively.
Ulinzi Warriors' coach William Balozi attributed their success to a tactical change, switching to a man-to-man defense that KPA struggled to counter.
Ulinzi Warriors' captain John Washika credited their tight defensive approach for the win, saying they decided to play defensively and contain fouls after observing that KPA scored most of their points during transition in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Thunder men's basketball team also secured a semifinal win, defeating EMYBA 77-68 in Game Three at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi on the same day.
Thunder dominated three quarters, while EMYBA won one, with Thunder taking charge in the second half to secure the win.
Thunder's head coach Sadat Gaya expressed disappointment with the team's performance, noting that they relied too heavily on individual brilliance and needed to improve their teamwork and defense.
The two teams will meet again in Game Four and Five, set for Saturday and Sunday respectively, with Thunder and Ulinzi Warriors each needing one win to secure their place in the final.
