On Saturday morning, a devastating incident occurred at the Likoni Channel when a vehicle plunged into the ocean, claiming the life of a middle-aged man.
According to Kenya Ferry Services, the driver of the vehicle sped off to the ramps at high speed immediately after purchasing a ticket for the crossing, resulting in the tragic accident.
As reported by KFS, the driver failed to stop the vehicle despite several efforts by the Ferry Officials to flag him down.
The driver, identified as John Mutinda, has since been taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary, while the remaining occupants of the vehicle are yet to be identified.
A search and recovery operation is currently underway in the channel, with Mombasa County Government dispatching a team to join the multi-agency rescuers.
This incident comes just three months after a woman and her daughter died at the channel after their car plunged into the ocean from the ferry on September 29, 2019.
