On December 7, 2019, a significant development took place in the Rio Olympics scandal, with former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and other officials facing charges in connection with the scandal.
Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Elizabeth Juma ruled that the evidence presented by 28 prosecution witnesses was sufficient to warrant charges against the former CS and his co-accused.
The charges against Wario and his co-accused include six counts of corruption and abuse of office, related to the loss of 55 million shillings during the Rio Olympics.
Specifically, Wario is accused of improperly facilitating the travel of six individuals to the Rio Olympics, resulting in a loss of public funds worth 5,846,346 Kenyan shillings.
Additionally, it is alleged that Adan Enow and James Singh pocketed 1,506,391 Kenyan shillings.
